There’s plenty to do in Lake Groton and nearby. Here are some of our favorite places to visit when we spend time at the camp:

Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream– Tour the famous Ice Cream factory, includes free samples!

Boulder Beach – Swim, hike, picnic, snack shop and rent kayaks, canoes and paddle boats.

Cabot Cheese– Tour the tiny cheese factory that produces and distributes the best cheese nationwide. Includes free samples!

Cross Vermont Trail – Go hiking or snowmobiling on this trail that spans the state!

Fall Foliage Festival  and Chicken Pie Supper – Groton is one of six towns who host local events during weeklong festival- usually 1st week in October.

Forest Country Store – Located on Boulder Beach Road (1 mile from cabin), next to Stillwater State Park on Lake Groton. Hours; 8am – 5pm Sun – Thu, 8am – 7pm Fri & Sat. (802) 584-4899. Hours increase during July and August. They carry the basic needs plus camping and fishing equipment. Open Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Upper Valley Grill & General Store. Hwy 302, just west of town. (802) 584-3101. Hours; 6am -9pm Mon-Thu, 6am – 10pm Fri & Sat, 7am – 8pm Sun. Hot meals, gas, hunting & fishing licenses available. (802) 584-3101

Local Restaurants

Brown’s Market Bistro– Great local restaurant- Reservations suggested. And music Thursday- Saturday nites.

P & H Truck Stop– The best Cinnamon Bread you will ever taste. My personal favorite is the Reuben Sandwich (and Zagat rated). Quote from a low carb dieter: “It is worth it.” Need I say more? Recommendation: Call to reserve your loaf of cinnamon bread (they sell out fast); (802) 429-2141

Positive Pie – The best New York style pizza you will find anywhere! Plainfield /Montpelier VT.

Rainbow Sweets – Great sweets and greek treats, Marshfield, VT.

The Skinny Pancake – Excellent sweet and savory crepes in Montpelier, VT and Burlington, VT.

Dobrá Tea Room in Burlington – Great tea room in Burlington, VT. Excellent atmosphere, great tea selection, light fare. A very fun way to spend a few hours.
